General Bikeshare Feed Specification (GBFS)
BCycle, LLC is a proud supporter of the General Bikeshare Feed Specification (GBFS). This standard supports publicly available station bike/dock availability information and does not require the use of an API token. Developers are encouraged to review the GBFS documentation available on Github as they determine how to incorporate BCycle system information into their applications and websites.
Once you’ve had a chance to review the documentation on GitHub, you can review the specific endpoints for Madison BCycle via the reference tag embedded in https://madison.bcycle.com
- Go to https://madison.bcycle.com/
- Right-click the page and choose “View Source” (or equivalent for your browser of choice)
- Find the link rel='gbfs' tag in the text: <link rel='gbfs' type='application/json' href='https://gbfs.bcycle.com/bcycle_madison/gbfs.json' />
Each BCycle operator chooses whether or not to opt into the GBFS standard. As noted in the GBFS documentation File Distribution section, each bike share city or system that opts into the standard includes a link ref tag within the page’s source in order to be auto-discoverable. BCycle systems will have the root address of gbfs.bcycle.com in their GBFS endpoints.
BCycle, LLC supports GBFS availability for each BCycle operator at no additional cost, but respects each operator’s decision about what information they share publicly. If your local BCycle city doesn’t yet support the GBFS standard, please encourage them to opt in via the contact information available on their website.
